Commercial Dumpster Collection Information
COMMERCIAL DUMPSTERS AND ROLL-OFFS. The City of Spokane Solid Waste Collection Department provides commercial dumpsters and roll-off containers for garbage collection within the Spokane City limits. These containers are in place at businesses and apartment buildings throughout the city. Customers are charged only for the collection service; we provide the dumpster at no additonal fee. Smaller dumpsters (up to a 6 yard) are emptied on site; roll-off containers are hauled directly to a disposal facility to be emptied and returned.
MANDATORY SERVICE. In an effort to keep Spokane clean, weekly collection in the city limits is required for all occupied residences and businesses.
COMPACTORS. The City of Spokane does not furnish, sell or repair compactors. Customers interested in buying a compactor or needing repairs done, would need to do so from a private vendor. The City of Spokane does provide collection service for our customers who have compactors. Please contact the Commercial Division at 509.625.7955 prior to purchasing a compactor to ensure the unit is compatible with department vehicles and equipment. Smaller compactors (up to a 6 yard) are emptied on site; larger scale compactors are hauled directly to a disposal facility to be emptied and returned.
RATES. Commercial containers can be emptied once a week or more frequently depending on a customer's needs. For a list of commercial rates, please click here.
BILLING. Dumpsters are billed to the combined City of Spokane Utility Bill with municipal water and sewer charges. Unfortunately, the city does not offer a "refuse-only" billing option. Dumpsters can be shared upon approval of the Director of Solid Waste Collection or his designee, as long as the involved parties are next door to each other (not across the street). The dumpster charges would be billed to one account and it would be the responsibility of the two parties to split the charges accordingly.
COLLECTION TIMES. Commercial collection occurs between 6:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (due to unforseen events and obstacles, we cannot guarantee a set time). Your driver may arrive earlier or later than what you are used to on any given week.
CONTAINER ACCESS. Container location must be approved by the department; any location changes must be performed by the department. To ensure collection, on your designated collection day, please make sure prior to 6:00 a.m. to have your container ready, easily accesible and available for collection. This includes:
completely removing locks and chains
making provisions for inclement weather such as snow removal and sanding icy areas
clearing the area of vehicles or other blockages
removal of waste, debris and anything else required to make the container accessible for dumping
MISSED? The City of Spokane Solid Waste Collection Department is dedicated to providing efficient and friendly service. If you feel that we have missed your commercial collection, please call us immediately at 509.625.7955 and we will make every effort to return within the same day or the next business day to remedy this situation (Friday collection will be picked up on Monday; we are closed weekends). If we return to empty your container for any reason other than departmental fault or error (such as obstacles blocking, failure to prepare container properly, etc.), an additional return trip charge will apply.
